Songs from Kona
This CD is a first in the magical history of Hawaiian music, featuring the tradition and cultural heritage of Kona and Kona coffee. We will take you a musical journey from North Kona to South Kona. A few songs bring to life the famous Kona coffee estates, and the rest pertain to the various areas of Kona where coffee is grown. You will experience the spirit of Aloha throughout the CD
The music director is Aaron Mahi, one of Hawaii’s living legends in traditional Hawaiian music and the former bandmaster for the Royal Hawaiian Band founded by King Kamehameha III in 1836.
Featured musicians include Dennis Kamakahi (a Grammy Award winning artist), Martin Pahinui (one of Hawaiian music’s most gifted vocalists), George Kuo (a renowned master of Hawaiian slack key guitar), Bobby Ingano (one of Hawaii’s finest steel guitarists), Kama Hopkins and Kekoa Kaluhiwa (members of Holunape – Hawaii’s Grammy “Na Hoku Hanohano Award” winning group) as well as Stephen Akana (the closest cousin to Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo'ole).
